I have been approached twice over the last couple of weeks from clients who have asked me ‘can you write a tender for me and oh it is due in next week!’ – My first reaction is not to turn away the business, (I want a lasting relationship with them) but to ask them for the tender documents to read and I will get back to them by the end of the day.
From subsequent conversations with both clients I came to the conclusion that they were not ‘tender ready’. Although I could have provided technical responses for them I look at their overall position in tender readiness and do they have a model of delivery, can fully demonstrate compliance i.e. Cyber Security certification, all of which will increase their chances of being successful.
My advice to clients who are new to tendering and bidding is to spend time getting yourself ‘tender ready’ which in the medium to long term will save time and resources. It also gives more time for review and analysis of the ‘technical’ response they are providing for the commissioner. A simple filing process of documents, references, policies, accounts, infographics etc. will add greater confidence to winning that all important business with the ethos of Prepare, Present & Win!
